If you're careful, you don't have to worry about being attacked by sea creatures - Peter Benchley

I'm Not Lost, I'm Exploring

I
haven't posted any trip reports in a while, but not because I'm staying home! I just haven't found the time to write them up although some interesting things have been happening.

The Weather, Moon, and Water Temps listed along the margin has been going through some changes. I'm still not happy with it, so expect some additional tweaking over the winter months as I find time to write some more code.

We had another cold water practice outing with Mary, Vitas, and Sally. The water was an additional 5 degrees colder and the difference was dramatic from just two weeks before.

One of the Mason Neck regulars, John, was paddling around Highpoint a few weeks ago when he heard a cry for help. As John paddled in close to shore a guy flagged him down. His fishing boat had capsized 100 feet from shore and he was safe on land, but cold. John didn't have a cell phone so he paddled back to Mason Neck and alerted the rangers.

When the rescue boat found the guy, he was very hypothermic. They were surprised to find '2' people, not one. The one was in a bit more distress, having inhaled water when he went overboard. John didn't find out about the other boater till later as the first boater didn't mention him. Both were taken away by ambulance when brought in.

I have a few new pairs of gloves I'll be testing over the next few weeks. I'll post a review when the testing is complete.

The water's cold folks. Be careful out there.
